SJN GIG OF THE MONTH: PAUL SAWTELL VIBES QUARTET
Paul Sawtell (vibraphone), Paul Kilvington (piano), Tom Hill (bass), Dave Hassell (drums).
Paul Sawtell has been known for many years as an outstanding pianist: swinging and imaginative, with a remarkable technique which enables him both to fashion brilliant solos and to accompany with acute sensitivity. Paul has also recently resumed performing on vibraphone, at which his skills seem just as exceptional. He is backed by a superb trio: Paul Kilvington on piano, a regular colleague of Ben Crosland, whose Threeway played here last month: Tom Hill on bass, whose every appearance confirms his talent; and the highly respected Dave Hassell on drums.
This is a band which will proclaim the classic jazz virtues of invention, quick thinking, collaborative feeling and swing. Expect a mix of great standards and lesser known gems. Don't miss it. Book ahead - and tell your friends....
